Legal Protection Insurance
Legal disputes involving a pet can arise unexpectedly – for example, with neighbours, landlords, insurance companies or authorities. With the legal protection insurance included in your aniCare subscription, you receive professional support for insured legal cases.
The legal protection insurance is provided by Orion Rechtsschutz-Versicherung AG.
Access Legal Protection Insurance
- Open the animundo Dashboard.
- Scroll to “For you & your pet” and tap “Insurance”.
- Select “Legal Protection Insurance”.
- On the overview page, you can see the pets covered by legal protection insurance.
- Tap the shield icon next to the respective pet to view more information about the insurance coverage.
Legal protection insurance applies to eligible dogs and cats assigned to your account after taking out an aniCare subscription. The pets must be permanently kept in your household, and your place of residence must be in Switzerland or Liechtenstein.
Which areas of law are covered?
Legal protection insurance supports you in various legal disputes related to your pet:
- Compensation law: For example, claims for damages related to your pet.
- Criminal defence: If you face criminal allegations in connection with your pet.
- Insurance law: In disputes with pet health, surgery or liability insurance providers.
- Other contract law: For example, disputes relating to purchase, sale or care agreements.
- Tenancy and lease law: In disputes with your landlord relating to keeping a pet.
- Neighbour law: For example, disputes concerning noise, odours or your pet roaming freely.
- Administrative law: In certain disputes with authorities, for example concerning requirements or a ban on keeping a pet.
Which costs and services are covered?
Under the applicable insurance terms and conditions, Orion handles the legal case and covers various associated costs. These may include lawyer and mediation fees, expert opinions, court and legal proceeding costs, compensation awarded to the opposing party and debt collection costs.
You also have access to legal advice by telephone.
The maximum insurance coverage per claim is:
- Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Europe: up to CHF 600,000
- Outside Europe: up to CHF 150,000
When and where does the insurance coverage apply?
Insurance coverage begins when you take out an aniCare subscription and ends when it is cancelled. If payment is not made, insurance coverage is not guaranteed.
For other contract law, tenancy and lease law, and neighbour law, a one-month waiting period applies after taking out the insurance.
Depending on the area of law, coverage applies worldwide or is limited to Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
What is not covered?
Not all legal disputes are covered. Legal protection does not apply, among other things:
- Nn connection with pet breeding
- While the pet is in the care or custody of a third party
- To pets that require an official permit or are prohibited at the respective place of residence
- To areas of law that are not expressly listed as covered in the insurance terms and conditions
For administrative law, coverage is also limited to the cases specified in the insurance terms and conditions.

If you need legal support in connection with your pet, you can start the process directly through animundo:
- Open Legal Protection Insurance.
- Tap “Report a legal case”.
- Use animundo to book a callback from Orion’s legal experts.
- During the phone call, you will receive the required policy number.
- You can then use this number to open your legal case with Orion.
